Kilimanjaro takes you from rainforest to arctic summit in under a week, so your kit has to work across four very different climate zones.
Layering system
- Moisture-wicking base layers (avoid cotton — it stays wet)
- A warm mid layer (fleece or light down)
- A heavyweight down jacket for summit night
- Waterproof, windproof shell jacket and pants
On your feet
- Broken-in, waterproof hiking boots with ankle support
- Gaiters to keep scree and dust out
- Liner socks plus thick hiking socks
Summit night essentials
- A headlamp with spare batteries (it's a midnight start)
- Insulated gloves and a warm hat
- A 3-season sleeping bag rated well below freezing
We provide a full kit list and gear check at your pre-climb briefing in Moshi, and quality rental gear is available locally if you'd rather not fly with it.
